Teacher development will combine IT-based distance-learning with attendance at courses of varying lengths at a national network of venues authorized or accredited for the purpose by SLF or appropriate other bodies. It will include a ‘Space Primer’ containing a series of training materials related to the learning resources and facilities, and this will also include discussion and case studies of good practice in the use of space education.
This ‘Primer’ will be offered to teachers as a ‘graduated development programme’ - a step-by-step learning system that will enable teachers to work at a pace which suits them. This programme will become a permanent feature of the Space link website, meaning that teachers who start to use the Spacelink Service after its launch will always have access to a straightforward, comprehensive training programme.
The planned programmes on the website are:-
TD1 - Limited and site-protected materials on the website for teachers undertaking trialling of lessons and software.
TD2 - Essential in-service support for teachers intending to use Spacelink material which will be required to be accompanied by Teachers’ Guides as to their use.
TD3 - Desirable further background study to give extra understanding which could support teachers across a number of, in not all, Programmes.
TD4 - Optional elements in extended study courses, perhaps as part - eventually even the whole - of an award-bearing course at post-graduate level.
TD5 - Introductory material for teachers and headteachers will explain what the Service is all about. It will not seek to help people actually to use the resources.
