To maximise the educational potential of space in typical schools, the burdens on school teachers must be minimised. Our prime aim, therefore, is to provide a comprehensive range of space-related learning resources and support service on-line which, when used by school teachers, will significantly enhance their teaching STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics - by motivating students to study them..
The Spacelink Learning Service is the brand name chosen for the array of learning materials and support services that will be made available to schools. Based on considerable educational and technical research, undertaken by itself and partners since the mid-1990s, the Foundation is very confident that its one-stop, on-line service will be cost effective, affordable by most schools, and easy to use by both teachers and students alike.
The materials, available on line, will be ready for teachers to use in the classroom and will not require teachers to spend precious time on preparing and researching materials, thus helping them to be more effective in the teaching situation.
A key requirement allowed for in the design of the Service is that, as teachers gain experience of the Service, their needs will probably change and most likely become more demanding. Hence the Service is modular in configuration to provide the flexibility for new needs to be readily accommodated, either in existing modules or by launching new modules. The outputs from the various modules will be delivered as a seamless service on the internet.
