TEACHER SUPPORT SERVICE

Teachers play a key role in introducing any new topic or teaching approach to schools and the Spacelink Learning Service will be no exception.

Most teachers do not have either the time, training or resources to research space and satellite information or to create space based lessons.

However, the Spacelink Learning Service will provide the physical and intellectual resources needed by teachers to enable them to meet their curriculum requirements and to arrange worthwhile after-school activities. Teacher support services will include the necessary initial and in-service training, to ensure proper use of the learning service.

TEACHER DEVELOPMENT

Teacher development will include a 'Space Primer' containing a series of training materials related to the learning resources and facilities, and this will also include discussion and case studies of good practice in the use of space education.

This 'Primer' will be offered to teachers as a 'graduated development programme'- a step by step learning system that will enable teachers to work at a pace which suits them. This programme will become a permanent feature of this web site, meaning that teachers who start to use the Spacelink Learning Service after its launch will always have access to a straightforward, comprehensive training programme.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

Operational support will include a range of services and helplines relating to the use of the learning resources; special services for the use of space experimental facilities; a teachers' chat room and teachers' exchange and a mail-order shop for new materials.
