HELEN SHARMAN PROGRAMME

This Programme will be hosted by Helen Sharman – the first British astronaut and one of our Patrons. It will focus on the latest developments in space exploration, and will present a range of fascinating, topical materials for students and teachers – and be frequently updated.

There will be four main themes:

  • People in space - the human angle
This theme will profile astronauts, giving their personal perspectives on space exploration. It will provide insights on what it is like to go into space, what made them choose their career, the selection and training processes etc.

  • A Bulletin Board of space-related events
This will give students an overview of events taking place in various countries. Examples include exhibitions, space clubs, talks and space camps.

  • Latest Space News - See what's happening in space today
Readily digestible stories of the latest space happenings, things like recent launches and exploratory missions, progress on the International Space Station, etc.

  • Space science and technology features
This will provide easily assimilable and exciting essays on space topics.

A further purpose of these programmes is to capture teachers' and students' attention when browsing the web and hence act as an "entry point" to the Spacelink Learning Service.
