INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
Satellites and Space are by their very nature international. Suitably designed education payloads on satellites would be able to serve nearly every school in the world, providing - for the first time - frequent access to educationally useful signals and data streams direct from space.
The Spacelink Learning Service has always been recognised as an initiative with international potential. With the internet as the principal means of delivery, users and partners world-wide will be able to make use of the range of Spacelink learning services to whatever extent they choose. The initial educational payload(s) and potential dedicated education satellite would pass over virtually every country in the world, offering schools everywhere the opportunity to take part in experiments in space, receive live signals from space, or simply to use satellites and related space data as part of a range of structured learning programmes.
Initial learning resources being developed by the Foundation will be in English, but are designed to be flexible and should be easily adapted where required. The Foundation recognises that partners from other nations may wish to adapt the resources to meet their own education requirements, or translate them into other languages. Partners may also want to produce further learning resources of their own to fully address their needs. Where appropriate, these may by agreement be incorporated into the wider Spacelink Learning Service.
The Spacelink Learning Foundation sees many benefits from extending the Spacelink initiative internationally and is actively seeking to develop further parterships that will help achieve this goal. The benefits envisaged include the ability to share costs and hence accelerate the development of an ever wider range of educational services, potentially including provision of a dedicated satellite. The opportunity will also be taken to incorporate parters' ideas into new services and to extend trialling of learning resources to a number of countries in parallel.
