SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

The Spacelink Learning Service will from the outset be fully accessible via the internet to schools worldwide. As the enhancement phases are implemented, the range of options for direct access to education payloads on live satellites will be increased.

DESIGN CRITERIA

Four important factors have been taken into account in planning the implementation of the Service: first, that teachers will play a vital role during its development and testing; second, that its use by teachers will be voluntary; third, that teachers will play a pivotal role in achieving its effective use. Hence teachers must be allowed sufficient time to familiarise themselves with the use of space in the curriculum and extra-mural activities before the Service provides direct access to education payloads on live satellites. Fourth, to provide flexibility for new requirements to be readily accommodated, the Service will be modular in configuration.

To satisfy these criteria the Foundation's planning is based on ther Learning Service being developed in Phases as outlined below.
